A few years ago, I attended a Daily Fantasy Sports Trade Show in New York and the keynote speaker infuriated me with his daily fantasy sports is not gambling rhetoric. All the people in attendance wanted to make money and it didn’t matter if they were repacking a pig to look like a princess. It was still a pig under all that marketing on ESPN. However, this pig attracted gambling addicts, and in the process, it ruined a lot of lives without one bit of remorse. If you think you have a Daily Fantasy Sports Addiction or know someone that does, here is what you need to look for.
Constantly Looking At Box Scores Or Stats From Games
Staying Up Late To Do Research
Relationships Not Mattering As Much
Trouble Controlling Your Daily Spending Limits
Lying About Your Wins & Losses
Still Playing Even With Mounting Losses
* Due To Financial Losses, The Addict May Develop Depression, Anxiety, Loss Of Sleep or Drug & Alcohol Dependency
Daily Fantasy Sports is a dangerous game to play because it disguises itself as ‘Non-Gambling’ and in my opinion that’s extremely irresponsible. It is gambling and it is addictive and it needs to be treated as such.
If you or someone you know has a gaming addiction, the best thing you can do is to get help. While there are several resources for fantasy gaming addicts, the National Center for Responsible Gaming or NCRG is a great place to start. The NCRG’s national hotline number is 1-800-522-4700.
