All Dressed Up With Nowhere To Go

In this week’s edition of Roller Coaster Moods Trapped in Cartoons, Felicity Tse shows us the moment in life where you’re amped up to go out there into the world, but when the time comes, you freeze. Her piece is called ‘All Dressed Up With Nowhere To Go’ and here’s what she had to say about it.

“This week’s illustration is called “All dressed up with nowhere to go.” At one time or another, we get this burst of adrenaline and “yes” attitude that makes us agree to do things, but when the time comes, you’re just not in the mood for it anymore. (I’m personally in that spot a lot of the time). It’s like you hit a wall that comes out of nowhere, and you’re left asking yourself what went wrong or why the feeling of accomplishment doesn’t last… and you put up even more walls in the process. Maybe its helpful to think of everyone around us as individuals with unique thoughts and experiences, and as unique as our own situations are, there are others who feel the same way we do.”

This piece of work made me think about how often it happens to me, but in a way, I ignore that it happens so often. I couldn’t tell you how many times this calendar year where I’ve been excited to go to a function, but then on the night, I sit in my apartment and come up with all the reasons not to go. I lay on the couch and watch Netflix by myself. And now, just thinking about how many times the couch has won out this year, makes me realize maybe I’m a little more depressed than I thought I was.

I have been forcing myself to go out and exercise lately, as I started taking Yoga, but for the most part, I tend to make plans and then hope that the other people forget. All talk and no follow-through is what I’m hoping for on both ends.

I can see I’m in a downward cycle and I want to thank Felicity Tse with all my heart for sending this piece of art our way as it’s made me realize that I need to make some changes and start getting out there and socializing in the real world before I fall into a deeper funk.
