At First Glance

This weeks contribution for Roller Coaster Moods Trapped In Cartoons comes from Felicity Tse. Her piece is titled ‘First Glance’ and this work couldn’t be more timely for someone at the Massive Phobia office. One of our colleagues has a relative suffering from post natal depression right now and is battling with suicidal ideation. Unfortunately, the family members aren’t being understanding about the situation, even with it right in their face. We want to thank Felicity as her contribution this week couldn’t be more timely. Her artist statement is below.

“It’s about issues getting attention too late. It’s as if people are virtually blind until mental health affects our lives or lives of our loved ones directly that we truly understand the gravity of a situation. We’re taught to hide or belittle our negative feelings – the roots – until issues manifest and start to show them outwardly – the rotten apples – and by that time, we’ve already felt neglected for a long time than we’ve let on. It’s hard to remove the stigma of asking for help until we’re at our wit’s end, but we’re also losing the ability to taking care of one another and seeing the warning signs.”

We hope you enjoy Felicity Tse’s drawing as much as we did and if you want to contribute to our site in the future, please email us at
