It’s day 6 of the mini goal, and I’m on fire with my steps and my Fitbit with 31,259 steps. Part of my high step day was because I played soccer today and I have to admit that I’m a pretty terrible soccer player.
I didn’t think I could be bad at soccer, but it turns out I was wrong. I have zero ball handling ability, and some people that I’m playing with seem to have the skill of having the ball attached to their foot. I thought this was a recreational league and now I feel like I’m always making excuses for myself when I come off the field for s sub.
Words coming out of my mouth are ‘oh, I jammed my toe on that one’ and ‘i hurt myself exercising this week, that’s why that person blew by me.’ Pretending that you’re coming up lame with your leg is a pretty sad state of affairs when the reality of the fact is that I got old, slow, and have the lung capacity of an asthmatic with emphysema.
Did I mention that I tripped over my own two feet again and fell flat on my face? Yeah……..that happened again, but thankfully I was prepared for such an embarrassment this time by wearing long johns underneath my shorts and gloves on my hands. My silver lining was that I didn’t get rug burn from the fake grass field we play on.
Were there any positives this week? Yes. I was able to stay on the field longer than the week before, and the smokers on the team were in the same boat as me. Also, I was a really big fan of the guy who went out drinking the night before because he was just as crappy as me this week and could barely stay on the field at all. I was quietly hoping that he’d puke. I should have bought him a gift after the game as a thank you. And I was a big fan of the woman on the team whose name I don’t remember because her legs didn’t recover well from the previous game and she was much slower than the week before.
Pretty much i’m an asshole who’s thankful for other peoples misfortunes in an attempt to not feel as shitty about my declining athletic prowess.
Can’t wait for next weeks game!
