This week’s Roller Coaster Moods Trapped in Cartoons by Felicity Tse is called Taking Our Time In Nature and is about the changing of the seasons and our perspective on life.

When we saw this piece, it became a strong reminder that we needed to get out of the city. If you’re like us, city dwellers, you’re constantly in the hustle and bustle of a concrete jungle. When you’re in a space like this for so long, you sometimes forget what life in nature is like and the benefits that can occur just by surrounding yourself with trees. If this sounds like you, then we think you should do what some of us in our office did this past weekend.
With the snow completely gone, we packed ourselves into a car and headed north to some hiking trails about an hour outside of the city and just walked amongst the trees and creeks for a whole day. Yes, it was a little muddy, and yes it wasn’t a full hot summer day, but it was warm enough. The sun felt good on our skin. The smell of trees and the water nearby electrified our bodies, and we were also able to slow down and just be.
We left our cell phones in the car, disconnected from the technological world and for many of us, our worries just went away. It’s amazing what a small little thing like leaving your cell phones can do, but so many of our stresses come from things like missed calls, social media, work emails, etc., that not worrying about it every second lifts a giant weight off your shoulders.
So if you’re feeling like taking a break from the routine like we did, we suggest you listen to Felicity Tse, and go on a nature adventure yourself. Your mental health will be so much better for it.
