I’m pretty sure if I try and walk a mile in Edward Snowden’s shoes, I wouldn’t get further than 3 feet. I can’t mentally comprehend the state he’s put himself in since his exile from the United States. If you don’t know Snowden, he is a former Central Intelligence Agency employee, who copied and leaked classified information from the National Security Agency in 2013. He believed what he was doing was ‘JUST’ as the government was illegally listening into conversations of every American citizen.
He is called many things. A hero, a whistleblower, a traitor, a patriot and a dissident. What he did, however, sparked a debate about mass surveillance and government secrecy. Where does national security begin and the privacy of individuals end?
The government charged him with two counts of the Espionage Act, which can be punished by death. Due to political reasons, Russia has given him a safe haven ever since, which is pretty ironic, because if Snowden did this to Russia he would have been killed a long time ago, but that’s another story. Snowden has since been in Exile, however, that may all be coming to an end…….And it may not be pretty for him.
To Russia, Edward Snowden is merely just a piece in a giant game of chess. A pawn. When they need to use this piece for their advantage they will and it seems that day may soon come. With the love affair of Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin continuing, Snowden may be gifted to Trump as a peace offering. NBC News is reporting that “highly sensitive intelligence reports detailing Russian deliberations” suggest Russia is mulling over sending Snowden back to the U.S. as a favor to Trump.
Edward Snowden must be deeply troubled by this because his life is now at stake. Donald Trump is most definitely going to ask for the death penalty based on his rhetoric of keeping America safe and catering to his voter base. The bully President will most likely want to make an example out of him. This is a real threat to Snowden’s life and I’m sure he won’t be sleeping well for awhile. Usually you can count on mass protests to change the mind of America’s government, but with this administration, it would most definitely fall on deaf ears. Edward Snowden, in our opinion, needs a miracle and is likely second guessing himself by not surrendering to the Obama Administration. We’ll be praying for Edward Snowden’s safety and sending all our positive thoughts his way. #prayforsnowden
And that’s why Edward Snowden is The Unbalanced Being of the Day.
