The Unbalanced Being of the Day | The Grammy’s
Let me first state that I don’t watch the Grammy’s and I think all award shows for art are beyond stupid. Art is subjective and one person’s garbage is another person’s little piece of heaven. With that being said, last night at The Grammy’s, we may have seen the exact reason why these awards shows are so ridiculous and why old white people still seem to make all these decisions. The Grammy’s is now in crisis.
“The artist of my life is Beyoncé, and this album to me, the ‘Lemonade’ album, was just so monumental,” Adele said. In a symbolic gesture, Adele made a big production about how Beyoncé really deserved the Album of the Year award and broke the award she received in two.
But with its racial themes and imagery, some are questioning if the project was “just too black” for Grammy voters. According to Kevin Powell, author of the memoir “The Education of Kevin Powell” and a forthcoming biography on rapper Tupac Shakur, thinks so. “Beyonce’s ‘Lemonade’ made a lot of people uncomfortable, because it is so political, so spiritual, so unapologetically black, and so brutally honest about love, self-love, trust, betrayal.” “Adele’s album is strong, but it is just songs about love. It is safe and uncontroversial; it breaks no new ground. And neither do Grammy voters, generally speaking, when it comes to picking winners of this particular award.”
The Grammy’s is now having an identity crisis in a very big way, There have been issues in past years but now it’s really being talked about. With all these liberal Grammy voting folks saying they love equality in one part of their life, it seems they can’t see the inequality in the other part. The Grammy’s needs to take a good long look at itself in the mirror and decide if it wants to grow up and stay relevant, or does it want to become just like it’s parents…… Ah!……The old crossroads.
And that’s why The Grammy’s is The Unbalanced Being of the Day.
